A recent collaboration between the @Climate Educators Network CMSR Consultants Pvt Ltd and @asar , ‘’Perception of First-Time Voters on Climate Education in India'’ revealed that climate action ranks as one of the important factors in influencing the electoral preferences among first-time voters across four states the study was conducted in – Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. in the state. While the necessity for comprehensive climate education is overwhelmingly glaring to bridge the gap between awareness and actionable comprehension, paradoxically, the ramifications of Climate Change are increasingly impinging upon educational frameworks. The World Bank group’s recent report  ‘The impact of Climate Change on Education and what to do about it’ underscores that the escalating frequency and severity of extreme weather events are disrupting educational paradigms worldwide, instigating education setbacks, dropouts, and more. With approx 75%  of significant weather events affecting over 5 million individuals leading to closure of schools over the past two decades. Concurrently, rising temperatures are also hampering learning. The report also identifies four tangible realms of intervention that includes educational initiatives for bolstering resilience, fortification of educational infrastructure against climatic adversities, exploring uninterrupted educational continuity, and supporting, enabling and catalysing students and educators as catalysts for change. A graphical representation extracted from the report delineates the surge in climate-induced educational closures over the preceding two decades. Despite increasing evidence, the realm of education remains largely marginalized in the climate policy discourse, with a mere mention in fewer than one-third of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) strategies. India just ranked 176th of 180 in the Global Nature Conservation Index! 😬 Not exactly the kind of global ranking we should be proud of, right? While we score better at protecting land, our marine conservation game is practically non-existent with a score of 0/100 !! While debates rage on over infrastructure projects and development (hello, air pollution crisis of most of the north India!), it's a wake-up call that nature isn’t just a "nice to have," it’s a must for our survival. 🌍🐅🌊 The report gives us kudos for our efforts in diversity in protected areas and economic efforts towards conservation, but illegal wildlife trade, pollution, marine conservation and pesticide use are still dragging us down. Meanwhile, Bhutan is sitting pretty in the top 15, showing us all how its done. Our forests, wildlife, and ecosystems are the backbone of clean air, water, and climate regulation – basically, everything that keeps us alive and kicking. If we want India to truly thrive, nature conservation has to come into the spotlight, not just in policy but in everyday choices. With our rich and unique habitats, India has so much worth protecting. Inviting MoEFCC, DST and MOAFW to Support SBSF Climate Change Studies for Shaping Future Agriculture Look at the change in India's June and November temperatures from 2013 to 2033 under RCP6.0. Red intensity implies a >6°C temperature change in both directions. India's June temperature rises by 2-3°C over the 20-year period (2013-2033) in some places, whereas it should dip 4-6°C or more in the centre of India from west to east. November will be hotter in the north and northeast of India. Uttar Pradesh and northern Bihar will have patches of over 6°C heat. Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and northern Bengal will see 4-6°C warmer temperatures. The Association for India's Development (AID), based in the USA, provided crucial support for the implementation of the 'Drip Linked Solar' initiative among marginal tribal farmers in the Danta and Amirgadh blocks of Banaskantha district. This pioneering project was conducted in collaboration with the Vikas Centre for Development, aiming to empower and uplift the marginalized farming communities in the region. By integrating drip irrigation systems with solar technology, we're introducing sustainable solutions that enhance agricultural productivity while minimizing resource usage. This initiative not only seeks to improve crop yields but also to foster economic resilience among tribal communities. Through 'Drip Linked Solar,' we're not only tackling immediate agricultural concerns but also addressing broader issues of energy access and environmental sustainability. By leveraging solar power for irrigation, we're reducing dependency on conventional energy sources and promoting eco-friendly practices. Furthermore, this project serves as a testament to the power of collaboration between NGOs and local communities in driving positive change. By working hand-in-hand with the Vikas Centre for Development, we're not only implementing technological solutions but also fostering community empowerment and fostering social cohesion. The Sundarbans, known as the cyclone capital of India, has been hit once again by a cyclone—this time, Cyclone Remal. Cyclones not only cause immediate, immense destruction but also have far-reaching consequences for ecosystems and local communities, with women at the forefront of climate impacts. How? WRI India is happy to support the Climate Action Cell (CAC) at Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bengaluru in the recently launched Climate Action Fellows Program to accelerate the implementation of the Bengaluru Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP).   Reap Benefit organized a comprehensive five day-long orientation program:   📝 Interactive sessions were led by WRI India's Srinivas Alavilli on Bengaluru’s civic challenges, Manu V. Mathai on research methods and ethics, and Praseeda Mukundan unpacking the nuances of BCAP. 🚩 A visit to Shanthinagar ward highlighted the impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities. The visit was supported by our partners, Socratus Foundation for Collective Wisdom, Mahila Housing Trust, Restless Development, and Hasiru Dala. 📍 A field visit with Jan Sahas engaged fellows on understanding the challenges faced by migrant worker communities. At Tresna Foundation, we tackle these challenges head-on, turning them into opportunities for growth. These returns come from reduced healthcare costs, increased productivity, and enhanced economic development. This substantial return on investment inspires us at Tresna Foundation to intensify our efforts in these vital areas. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 In regions like Gujarat, our initiatives have reduced health-related absenteeism in schools and cut medical costs significantly by improving sanitation facilities. Climate Resilience and Natural Farming: Regenerative practices such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and minimal tillage enhance soil health and biodiversity. This resilience is crucial in the face of unpredictable climate changes, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices that can withstand adverse conditions. Income Generation and Soil Health: Healthy soil is the foundation of productive farming. By improving soil structure and fertility, regenerative farming increases crop yields and quality, directly contributing to higher incomes for farmers.
